Principal Conductor | Roman Kofman

Roman Kofman was born in Kiev, Ukraine and is graduated from the Tchaikovsky Academy of Music (former State Conservatory) in Kiev with a degree in violin, followed by a degree in conducting in 1971. Mr. Kofman has focused his career on conducting and has established himself as one of the most serious and versatile conductors in the former Soviet Union. A prominent conductor internationally, Roman Kofman has appeared with orchestras in many countries throughout the world. From 1990 he is the principal conductor of the Kiev Chamber Orchestra.

During his long and distinguished career, he has repeatedly been invited to conduct the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra and de St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra (Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra). Roman Kofman has also conducted other major orchestras, among them the Bolshoi Opera Theater Symphony, the Ukrainian State Symphony Orchestra. Munchen Philharmoniker, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique du Radio France, the National Symphony Orchestra of Belgium, the Liverpool Royal Philharmonic. Roman Kofman conducted in USA, France, England, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Mexico, Canada, South Africa, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Israel, etc.

In addition to conducting, Mr. Kofman is a renowned teacher, writer and composer. He is a professor of conducting at his alma mater, the Tchaikovsky National academy of Music in Kiev. Furthermore, he wrote the highly acclaimed textbook “Educating Conductors. Psychological Elements”, which is used in the educational curriculum of conductors at many schools and universities worldwide.

From 2003 to 2008, Roman Kofman was appointed as General Musical Director of the city of Bonn, Germany, where he leaded the Opera Orchestra and the Beethoven Orchester Bonn.

From June 2012 Roman Kofman is the Principal Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine.
